MONO Ready Hymn To The Immortal Wind, Celebrate 10 Years Of Beauty and Chaos

Japanese experimental icons MONO are set to release Hymn To The Immortal Wind, their fifth and most expansive album to date. Due March 24 via Temporary Residence, the album finds the band effortlessly soaring through melodies both sincere in approach and grandiose in scale, all with the aid of a full 28-piece chamber orchestra. Recorded and mixed by Steve Albini in June and November 2008 at his Electrical Audio Recording studio in Chicago, IL, the resulting seven songs will be delivered on the brink of MONO’s 10th anniversary as a group. To celebrate, the four-piece are planning two very special performances in New York City. Welcoming another twenty-three pieces to their arsenal, the band will be backed by the Wordless Music Orchestra for a celebration of their past accomplishments and the newly minted beast that is Hymn to the Immortal Wind. The two evenings; May 8th and 9th, hosted by The New York Society for Ethical Culture and Le Poisson Rouge respectively will mark the ONLY North American dates in support of their new LP and will undoubtedly be evenings to remember.

Jensen Sportag Max Tundra Remix, EP Out Tomorrow.

Jensen Sportag’s latest EP, Jackie, is out tomorrow. The 9-track release features three originals and a slew of bonuses, including live versions, JS-helmed re-edits, and a few raucous remixes. Last week, Pitchfork offered up one of the short-player’s strongest tracks: the punchy remix of “Cocktease” by Jensen-crushing Englishman Max Tundra. Download for yourself below.

First, he name-checked the electro-pop duo in his cover of Hot Chip's "Playboy" (instead of "Yo La Tengo", Tundra is "Blazin' out to Jensen Sportag" in the whip), and this past January, he named the group's "Jackie" as one of his current favorite older tunes in his own Pitchfork Guest List. Now everything has finally come full circle: the forthcoming Jackie EP not only features Mr. Tundra's favorite Jensen jam of the same name, but also a Tundra-helmed remix of JS's "Cocktease". 1 – Jackie: The title track is celebratory with a central theme of desire and shifts musically between 3 compositional quotations from pop rock. It is lyrically fashioned after the american girl tribute song. i.e: Oh Sheila, Joanna, Sussudio etc.

2 – Victim: This one has an overtly sexual message with musical references to early electro rap and epic soul.

3 – Cocktease: San Fransisco house and power pop provide setting for this girl gone bad story. i.e: Runaround Sue, Maneater, Girl Gone Bad, etc.
